Terry R. Modesitt, is a Terre Haute South Vigo graduate, earned his B.S. in 1979 at Indiana State University and attended Indiana University Law School / Indianapolis until his graduation in 1982.
Terry completed a 3-year law school curriculum in 2 1/2 years and further passed the Indiana State Bar after only completing 2 years of his law school curriculum. Terry is married to Karen Kiser Modesitt of Terre Haute and has 2 sons, Jared and Joel.
Professional achievements include the following:

  • Admitted to Bar, State of Indiana, 1982
  • Admitted to practice before U.S. Supreme Court; U.S. District Court, Southern Indiana
  • B.S. Indiana State University 1979; J.D., Indiana University Law School 1982
  • Taught law classes at Indiana State University for 3 years
  • Member: Terre Haute Bar Association, 1982-present
  • Member: Indiana Trial Lawyers Association
  • Member: Indiana Trial Lawyers and National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys

Terry is president and owner of Modesitt Law Firm P.C. His private practice has been general practice with emphasis on Personal Injury, Litigation, and Social Security Disability.  He also currently serves in his elected role as Vigo County Prosecutor since 1-2007.  In addition to his distinguished legal career, Terry has been very active in his church, Youth for Christ, Crisis Pregnancy Center, as well as other local charities and not-for-profit organizations. Terry currently serves on Advisory Board for Juvenile Justice Commission to the Governor, as well as the Board of Directors for Freebirds; Wabash Senior Activity Center Inc., and  Senior Education Ministries, Inc.


For more than 25 years, Terry Modesitt has been protecting the legal rights of people all over the Wabash Valley.  Terry is compassionate and understanding of your needs but is an aggressive proponent of your legal rights during negotiations.
From settling difficult family matters to winning personal injury judgments from multinational corporations and product manufacturers, Terry approaches each and every case with honesty, professionalism and commitment. Also, each Lunch with a Lawyer program will have a representative from Indiana Legal Services on hand.  Indiana Legal Services (ILS) is a nonprofit law firm that provides free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income and elderly people throughout the state of Indiana. ILS helps clients who are faced with legal problems that harm their ability to have such basics as food, shelter, income, medical care or personal safety. Most of the cases ILS handles are cases such as family law where there is domestic violence, housing, consumer law, access to health care, and access to government benefits. ILS does not handle any criminal matters.
